New mango hybrid NMBP-1243
Three new mango varieties have been developed by the National Mango Breeding Program (NMBP). NMBP-1243 is a hybrid cross between Irwin and Kensington Pride (KP). Yield is medium to heavy and consistent year to year. The fruit has an average weight of 507 grams. It has a strong red/pink blush over a pale yellow background and similar flavour to KP. This is an early season variety maturing two to four weeks earlier than KP. Hot water dipping and vapour heat treatment cause little damage. NMBP-1243 is licensed and protected under Australian Plant Breeder's Rights legislation. |
